Itinerary for South America

As many of our friends and family have heard… Madeleine, myself (Michael) and our three kids are leaving for South America for the Spring semester 2017.  We have been planning and testing our travelling skills with the kids for a few years now and have decided that this is the time to make the leap.  So this blog with be your prime source to keep up with our travels.   We have finalized our itinerary for between January 1st and early June; we would love to meet up with any and all of our friends and relatives, so start picking your favorite spots and join us.  If you have suggestions for where to go by all means give us a shout.  I want to stress that this is a tentative itinerary and is likely to change a bit!  So without further blabbering by me here it is:

Bolivia

January 1 – We have booked flights from Santa Fe, NM (where we are spending Christmas with the Maddy’s family) to La Paz, Bolivia.

January 1 to January 5 La Paz – we will be lying low and acclimatizing to the Alto Plano in La Paz and checking out the city.

January 6 to January 10 – Lake Titicaca – exploring the shores of this sapphire blue lake located on the Peruvian border.

January 11 to January 15 – Solar de Uyuni – We will be taking a tour to the largest salt pan in the world!!! and hopefully see some flamingos within the Resera de Fauna Andina Eduardo Avaroa; maybe some volcanos too.

January 16 – Depart to Chile

Chile

January 16 to January 21 – Explore Santiago and procure a vehicle; Maipa valley and Viña del Mar (coastal).

January 21 to February 18 – Staying in Pućon for a month; exploring hot springs, volcanoes and biospheres of the Chilean lake country.

February 18 to March 1 – Puerto Varas/Northern Patagonia; Carnival!

Argentina

March 2 to March 13 – El Chalten/Southern Patagonia; Torres del Paine and glaciers.  We will likely not get to Tierra del Fuego.

March 13 to March 17 – San Carlos de Barioche; Lake country; known as the Switzerland of Argentina.  St Patricks day!!

March 18 to April 7 – Mendoza is located at the foot hills of the Andes… famous Wine Country enough said!  Might be some birthdays too.

April 8 to April 16 – Buenos Aries, Tango, Eva Peron and Semina Santa (Easter) what could be better?

Uruguay

April 17 to April 24 – Montévideo, sorry Uruguay only one week for you.

Brazil

April 25th – enter Brazil from Uruguay via BR 116.

April 26th through 28thFlorianopolis Beach time!

April 29th May 1stIguacu falls water fall time!

May 2nd through May 4thSao Paulo quick trip through the city and on to….

May 5st through May 15thRio de Janeiro Maddy gets the coolest spots for her birthday.

May 16th through May 23rdPorto Seguro More beach time, I sense a theme.

May 24th through June 15thSalvador Beaches and more beaches… maybe some sand dunes; can we make it up to Natal and Fortaleza… doubtful.

June 16th – are we ready to go home?
